Tell my mate that! After 3 or 4 smashed Toploaders he went back to a Muncie in his HK.

    308 won't easily kill a toploader though.

Um.... The Celica five speed usually leaves the stick sitting further forward than the M20/21 aussie four speed. Clears the console (just) but means you have to shift in the seat to change to reverse. first and third. Could be (probably has been from time to time) adjusted with a redesigned stick, but you'd want the welds to be very good. I dont know about the Supra 5 speed in this regard, but would like to know more in terms of stick position, it seems to be regarded as a tougher box.

Stick position is important to your driver comfort if it's gonna be an everyday driver. But that said so is fuel consumption. Aussie four speed does tend to make you wish it was a five speed on interstate trips, sometimes I feel I can hear the fuel draining away needlessly, but diff ratio too, its all a compromise in the end. You could spend the cost of a gearbox in excess fuel consumption in a year or so. That said, why not try out the four speed, and see how you go, at least that way you havent made any conversion expenses, and you can change up later if it doersnt work out.

Toyota 5 Speed boxes are available with 3 different stick positions.
Stick Standard, Stick Forward and Stick Back.
Dellow Automotive in Sydney supply the variants.
