Thread: Paint Opinion

Would like to see a photo shop of that Byron! I was wondering today how white outs would look, but as you say silver might work to match the chrome as well. I still have quite a while to ponder all this as I have a feeling this is going to be a long slow resto!!

I think it would look odd. I say this in memory of a manderin red sandman with white decals and white paint outs that got around my area when I was a kid in about 1980. May look marginally better in black, but still off I reckon

Well, I think the consensus is that you should paint it black and I agree 100%.

Back in the day (and yes, I was there), everyone painted vans black because they were so damn cool (and especially with murals!). So you are very fortunate to own one that came that way when new (I bet it'd have some stories to tell if it could talk).

Imagine the thrill that the original buyer had when they drove that black Sandman out of the Holden dealer for the 1st time!!!!!!!!!

That's the same thrill you'll have when you drive it for the 1st time after it's painted.

You my friend are a lucky bloke....... PAINT IT BLACK!
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Had a black lx 4 door Torana a zillion years ago and everybody loved it
if this van was mine i would paint it black also but with chamois or flax interior
    now that would look cool

Well thats it then.......let it be black again!

I think the interior by the tags is chamios. I have heard that you cant get chamios anymore, so this is the major concern I have with the interior. I want it to be as light as possible on the inside with black carpet just to set things off. Cant wait to make a decent start on it once the Christmas dust settles.

Black is the way to go, match the tags.
Just forget the talk about silver and white (black-outs) quickest way to ruin the van.
Subtle satin or metallic or none at all, how it was supposed to be.

It is beige interior. Chamois is Kingswood trim. You'll struggle to find beige vinyl though in repro.

No ones said it so I will........ Its your car. You have to drive it and appreciate it.... Paint it what YOU want it ;)

But saying that..... Original black is nice!!!

I regret not painting my hz sandman ute saddle tan metallic. Instead I did it a galaxy blue with extra pearl. Sweet colour. But I regret I didn't do it original.... I also regret throwing out the old ORIGINAL 253 block when I fitted the brand new VS engine back in 1998 haha!

I know its my car but I really appreciate the opinions of all the people on here! I was really not sure what way to go as I had not seen any black sandys in the flesh and was wondering what the reason for this was and would it look to drab. Thanks to everyone for helping me with this decision and cant wait to start and put a build thread up for all to see.
