I do own one, it was red when I picked it up, now being stripped to bare metal, little bit of rust work to do, not too bad though, it will be tuxedo black again when finished with HX DX5 stripes.
Admittedly I did consider a metallic black with a really deep purple mixed in, and perhaps a chameleon paint etc, but not for long, I'd do something like that if it was a standard Kingy van maybe, but for Sandman, way better to keep the original colour. And they look great in black!
I know if I did anything else I would end up respraying it Tuxedo again eventually anyway, you cant go wrong with the original colour, becuase you never have to question your decision afterward, and nobody will seriously suggest you should have.
Anyway you dont entirely lose the blackouts, because they were satin not gloss,... um at least thats what I was gonna do, perhaps Byron or Dr Terry can help out here... is it correct to spray satin black blackouts over tuxedo gloss?
Theres a full thread on Tuxedo Black in the paint and panel section.
