People still restore HX Sandmans even though they are the bottom of heap.... Except 6 cylinder ones.
I am interested in Sandmans only because they had a cool sticker kit and were mostly V8's. I have no connection to the Van craze and to be honest find show vans a bit over the top. I prefer Utes because that's what all my mates drove when I left school. Except Sandaro who had his HJ Sandman of course.
So it's what interest you that makes you want something. Unfortunately dealers and traders push the value of old cars way past what they are really worth to Joe Blow the actual car lover.

People do restore HX's, but they also restore 6cyl 4 door Toranas! Nothing wrong with the hobby, we are talking future collectables via crystal balls. In the end I think it'll be the 308/5.0L Sandmans that will be what people will want if any are desired at all. At the moment for some reason vans are more popular than utes, but that will probably change again at least once.
My interest was always in the "GTS" style Sandman (HQ-HJ), I was never a fan of HX-HZ as the stripes always looked too girly to me. HX and HZ GTS and LE were the same for me too, too much blingy cr@p on them, HQ-HJ GTS look far better in my eyes.

This might be the exception. On cars sales.com a few HSV Maloo GTS's left at dealers for around 95k then a few 'second hand' ones with 27km - 300km only on them for around $135,000. I think they're dreaming.

The Blue oval dealers did the same thing with the GT-F.

Not too many people born after 1980 give a rats about cars built in the 70's. I don't imagine too many born after 55 or so would be rushing out to lay down $50000 on a 1940 restored original car.
Cars built in the 90's will be sort after one day. V8 ones will be desirable. The higher the spec the more desirable they will be. HSV are the best Holden performance car. Seems logical to me.
How many here were busting to buy a Sandman in 1990? Not many judging by the fact they were only worth parts value.
Group 3 and Group A are cars that were popular to the same people who like HQ to WB. Not people who grew up after 1990. That's why they are valuable now.

A crystal ball is needed for the future value of these cars
but until then just buy and enjoy what you can afford and live the dream

Buy what you enjoy and can afford, as "no one" know's what the future valued car's will be. Iv'e lived through all of this before, GT Falcon's and the HO's of course, don't waste your money on them, you'd be stupid to buy one. They use too much bloody fuel anyway. Sandman's, surfie's wagon's and overpriced tradies unit's, whose gunna ever want those when their finished with em, don't waste your money. Buy land or buy brick's and mortar, there's no money in car's.
Seen and heard it all before, and out of all of it, only one bloke got it right in the long run.

There going to get a lot more expensive we have noted a 18% increase on average in the last 12 months across all Australian muscle car sales. I.e. What was $55k last January is now $65k.
