    Prefered Parts Suppliers

    Hi All,
Now that the Monaro has gone it's time to start on the HJ. The plan, for now, is to restore the driveline and chassis whilst leaving the exterior of the car pretty much as is.
The old girl has good patina (hate that word) and only the bare minimum will be done externally, basically just enough to get through rego.
The driveline is another story altogether, all rubber components are pretty much perished and destroyed, the engine was smoking and noisy, basically everything is tired.
The plan is to remove the body from the chassis and restore the chassis and driveline, so from the outside she should look fairly untouched but underneath she will be all rebuilt.
    So back on topic.
I haven't restored a car before, are there parts suppliers that you have used that you were pretty happy with?
To start with i'll need the basic's like,
Full rubber kit (including body mount rubbers)
Engine, gearbox, diff overhaul parts (maybe VPW, Aussie 4spds?)
    Suspension and brake components?
Trim Kit and carpet (drivers seat needs repair)
Windscreen wiper motor overhaul, do you guys do these yourself?
    Cad and chrome platers?

There's a lot more but that'll do for a starter.
Like I said this is all new to me and I appreciate your feedback greatly.
    Gaz.

mate the monaro must of been keenly priced to sell so quickly! grab an ebay account. you'll buy the bulk of it on there and save all the running around.

    G'day Vombil,
Monaro sold for $26500, with a donor HK 307 Brougham. Sold it to a mate.
Sounds like pretty good buying but it still needed plenty of time and money.
Also I think the 80337 model code has it capped around that mark, while it's still a 6cyl anyway.

Has anyone used a Rare Spares rubber kit and found it ok? Or one from Better Auto Rubbers.
    Any preference?

I think they are all pretty much the same , my neighbour used Betta on his LC XU-1 and the door rubbers peeled pretty much straight away but they replaced them free of charge, when I did my HZ I used a combination from Rares and mostly a mob called Harrisons in Qld great product but a real pain in the arse to deal with if they dont have something in stock they just feed you B/S about when it will be in stock and keep you hanging, I think some of the Mexicans on here use a place in South Australia which I have read good feedback from.

Betta kit worked real great for me,Put it all on, Then the next stinking hot day left her out in the sun.
All has now nicely moulded to the van.

ps I recon the betta rubber was nicer than the rares stuff
It is not about the journey,It is the style we travel in!

I have bought a lot of gear from Kingswood Country. There prices seem to be a little cheaper than Rare Spares and there delivery time is shorter.
