Yes. I bought a V6 auto with the intention of fitting an LS1/2 with the A750F auto. But Marks 4WD gave up on the conversion as they couldn't get the Toyota ECU and the GM one to talk together. The engine fits fine.
I have been looking for a while to upgrade the 80 series, and was not impressed with any of the offerings locally. All the guys up here have cages on the back of their cruiser utes to keep the fridge etc, so it doesn't get knocked off. Im just on my way to Brisbane to pick up a low KLm super cab f250 with 7.3L turbo Diesel. It can fit 5 people can carry gear in the cab and can take a dirt bike or quad in it. Only downside is its 2003. With some tweaking the diesel guru up here reckons it will chew a little bit more than the 80. I can live with that for extra power and it ticks all the other boxes, and still cost less than a late model cruiser ute.
I almost bought one of those new but couldn't get a petrol V8 in an xtra cab 4x4, only a diesel so bought my Cross8 instead.
i brought and onsold a 2002 105R 4.5 petrol auto wagon about 3 months ago. it was a GXL. bit of a tank i think to drive.
had heaps of power and the multivalve 4.5 has a good reputation except for fuel economy. this one was petrol and gas..
in W.A. brunswick diesels put the 6.5 chev turbo diesel into heaps of them (they have a web page and offer kits)

If I was to convert one it'd be to an LS2 V8, not a diesel. I had heard the 105 with the solid front axle drove like an old 80 series, not as refined as a 100 series with IFS.
