I get what you mean, but Commodore today only applies to the passenger line (with Statesman separate as always). The utes are simply Holden ute, Holden SV6 ute and Holden SS ute.

In the end calling an SS ute a Sandman by adding a few flash bits and stripes really isn't that much difference to adding Sandman to a HJ Kingswood ute. And then as you say turn around and say it's only a Kingswood, which it is. But the correct statement today for the VF version is "its only a Holden ute".

How good would it be though if HSV got hold of it and called it an XU3.

Essentially the same as calling a V2 or VZ Monaro a Commodore, or a late model Statesman a Commodore. Or trying to tell you your HZ Sandman is a Kingswood. All incorrect.
