    Hambo, without the plates you will not get a definitive answer to it's authenticity.

    Ask the seller to send you photos of all 3 plates so you can determine it is a genuine Sandman.
    You may also need body verification, but get the plate details first and we'll help you out.

    Also use our quick ID guide to give you a broadscope;

    Awesome thanks mate! Am awaiting email response for plates, he has posted this photo if that helps.

    chasis_number.JPG

    it doesnt have the black paint around the headlights which I thought was a bit suss and its got the gts gills but is an HJ. Plus it has a sunroof and surfboard rack. Does all that sort of stuff make it less genuine or are they just trimmings and all that really counts is the chasis and engine number? Everything else looks legit, nice looking gts interior an that

    Thanks for the link be intouch

    I have that vehicle recorded as a 1/76 Jamaica Lime XX7 Sandman van but do not have a VIN for it, just the chassis number (and other ADR plate data) and BODY plate data. It is a 40 year old vehicle and all the bits you mention can be changed or added at any stage in those 40 years. You'll never pick the vehicle by the ID plates though, nor will anyone else, you'll have to go and look at it.

    hambo, there are vans now that look like original Sandmans and never were, and just as many Sandmans that have been repaired using standard bits, so the only real way is to look for the tell-tale signs like console mounts etc. A lot of vans got sunroofs and surfboard racks back then, there was a whole industry based on customising vans in the late '70's/early '80's. I'm surprised there are any standard ones left.

    If, as HK says, it is still painted Jamaica Lime, no matter how bad the paint is, it is a good chance that it's a Sandman as that was a popular original colour but not a popular respray colour later on.

    Looks like you have a good chance it is one to me. Hope so for you.

    The info on them can't help you except to rule out being a Sandman.

    righto so I got the plates last night and I think we have a winner, does anyone know of a specialist in the Sydney area that can go have a look at it for me? I know it was originally green, then someone painted it red apparently and now it is back to being green. Be great to get a professional opinion on what its worth

    Yea Hambo you've got a winner there. The engine block number is hard to read, but that isn't as significant as seeing the chassis number.

    HK said he had this one recorded in his database already, it's nice to see them pop up again.
