Aussie Rules, officially the oldest football competition in the world! Woo Hoo!!!!!

But more seriously, some of the earlier comments ring true. I reckon the NRL has a battle on its hands to survive and promote its game and if it doesn't succeed, AFL and Soccer leagues will consume it.

I doubt AFL and Soccer will overtake League as a TV spectacle. AFL is awful on TV hence why it gets lots of people to the grounds. Soccer is simply boring, I cannot understand how anyone can watch it, 90+ minutes for 1-0 and the news highlight is: one goal!
Having said all that League has been pi$$ing me off as a spectacle lately.

I'll have to agree with you Byron. AFL is good as a training exercise for league players as they are less likely to get hurt before a game and it does get them fit along with improving certain skills. Soccer just is the least for me. It attracts the wrong people from players to spectators.

It does sound like you have cranky old man syndrome Byron.

I just think League is over-reffed today. They've fixed my biggest peeve though as the Sunday game is now live, I stopped watching the 2nd Friday game and the Sunday games due to the ads - they'd turn them into 2 hour games. Nowadays I refuse to watch ads, the only time I ever see any is the odd one in live sport if I happen to get back to the room early. All other TV is recorded and ads fast forwarded, tried recording League but rarely watched it.

Go the Roosters, up 22-0 at halftime. Damn Knights and Tigers have cost me in tipping this round, Titans pulled a loss out of the jaws of victory.

Are you a cranky middle aged man like me? Everything seems to piss me off nowadays. Agree with soccer being boring on TV and partially agree with AFL being boring. It gets boring when teams flood the defensive zone and the game breaks down into packs just paddling the ball around.
