I wonder who advises upon what to build? One would have thought if you were going to do a Sandman model the very first would be a HQ in ute or van or both. I'd buy an Orchid HQ van or Saffron HQ ute model tomorrow, but have absolutely zero interest in an Aquarius or Manadarin HX ute or Cotillion HJ ute. The only one where they appeared to have nailed it is the Valencia HZ van (black is good too but in a model display sort of doesn't stand out much). I had seen the Aquarius, Cotillion and Mandarin utes at model shops before but just assumed they'd already sold out all the good colours and only had the less desirable ones left!
And if you were going to do a show/special non-Sandman commercial the very first would be the Ewe't, followed by the white splash/chicken iteration of the De-van?
All seems a bit strange to me.
In my 1:18 model collection display the cars that really pop are the Warwick Yellow GTS327's (standard and the Bathurst winner), the yellow 2002 CV8 Bathurst winner, the HG Orange Biante Series modified, the Bond/Roberts 1969 Bathurst winner and the Orchid HQ GTS coupe. The cars that you miss at first look are dark or plainer coloured cars, like the jade green HJ GTS coupe, black A9X Hatch, Bill Bourke special XW GT, Picardy red GTS327 and the dark blue XU-1 Biante series car. Even the Silver Mink GTS327 with Goya trim is duller.
