    What gearbox is this?

Hey guys this is the 5 sped gearbox in my HZ, Ive always thought it was an old supra 5 speed jobby but someone tried to tell me its a commodore box. Quite frankly I dont really know.. But I should shouldnt I!

Its a 5 speed, and has the push clutch mechanism ala the awesome HZ rat trap setup....

Bit hard to tell from those pictures but the gearbox mount looks very much Toyota.
Clutch set can be all Holden. The Bellhousing is aftermarket Dellow/CRS etc. So Hydraulic or Rat Trap can be set up.

Looks like a W55 Hilux box to me (often called a Supra 5sp). The bellhousing will say what it is somewhere - looks like a Dellow bellhousing by the longer bottom bolts.

Celica alloy 5-speed. Plus I have a crossmember here out of a Torana that has been modified for a Celica box and it looks almost exactly the same.
I have what looks like the same box as yours with a Dellow V8 bellhousing and was told it was Celica.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Thanks guys. Yes its a V8. Behind my 308.

That explains it then, because ive had this engine and box in 2 other HQ vans too before I put it in the HZ, and its always popped into the console in exactly the right spot.

I am actually contemplating putting my 304 EFI and T5 into the sandman (more about that later), and taking this celica 5 speed and 308 out and putting it in the Torana. Down the track...

Im not sure how the dellow housing bolts compare to the M20 setup but I was hoping I might be able to bolt the Torana V8 rat trap to this....

Big Rob I don't suppose you want to sell the modified torana crossmember do you?

    Cheers.

Torana V8 rat-trap relies on the bellhousing rear bolts to attach, yours looks like a Dellow so has longer bolts and will not fit without modification.

I just looked again and you can see where the HX style rat-trap has been modded to suit the longer bolts. That Holden setup should work in your Torana with the Torana pedal and cable but may not clear the extractors.

Thanks Byron. It is something I might consider if I swap the engines around. I could always just leave the aussie 4 speed in though and just use the 308 minus the 5 speed. Wouldn't be the end of the world. Guess id do a trial fit with the engine out to save me the pain...
