Sounds like an interesting and different project. Just a few pointers that will help you:

HJ sedan diff won't fit. You'll need a HQ-WB V8 housing and swap the internals over. No need for rear disc brakes either, the WB drums should be more than good enough for the chassis' capabilities.
Stock black motor rods and crank are cast not forged steel.
You might find it hard to Engineer and hence pass rego a blown 202 in a WB. The stock VK EFI will be a snack as WB and VK are the same vintage, but a blower may complicate it to the point of not being registerable. What would easily pass though (although you have said you don't want a V8) is a 5.7L/350ci engine out of a HSV - basically a 304/308 stroker, and is as easy to fit as a VK EFI 202 is. In stock guise this should be a snack to Engineer and would probably be cheaper than building up a blown 202 if you get a good used engine and probably have more power. As would a blown V6 out of a VS or VT, bit more to fit though as it needs specialty parts whereas the Holden V8 will bolt straight in using 253/308 sump, pickup etc.

Ok, just wondering how they are different? As for the disc brakes, its just something that'd be cool to do, not that it's ever going to really need them

I'm aware of that, we chose to use them because they're the same spec as XU-1 rods and cranks

Dad has a friend who has the same setup, albeit with a turbo, registered in a Torana, so we're working with his engineer to along the way

And also, if all fails, there is another motor built for this under a bench at home, a stroked 304.

    wbute answered the diff thing.

The rods are the same spec only as a 1973 (150 list) XU1, the rest of XU1 are the same crank and rods as a normal red 202. The blue/black 202 crankshaft is very different to a red 202 crank.

The actual concept or effective cc of the turbo or blown 202 isn't the rego issue with a WB. It is the emissions or pollution equipment problem, ie compliance with ADR27A, 27B or 27C depending what compliance the WB chassis you have is (AWB, BWB, CWB etc). The reason the stock EFI 304/350 or the blown V6 easily comply is they are a later emissions requirement and automatically comply. The stroked 304 (which will be a 330-ish ci or 350ci engine) will probably have the same issues unless you dress it up with all original WB V8 pollution equipment. The easiest way around it all is to change out the chassis for a HQ or HJ one!

Interesting, so really there is no advantage to using the black rods and crank we already have, better off using different rods and crank, or do you think the black gear will work fine for our application? (only planning to run 9psi)

I think Dad had already worked this out, but I suppose I'll run it by him. As for a Chassis swap I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to do, it's not like they aren't everywhere. So really its because the chassis is newer that the car is subject to stricter emission standards?
