Long shot asking here, and given these things were the biggest rust bucket in history the chances of many even still existing is slim, but someone here away from the coast may know of one that these can be procured from.
What i'm looking for is a set of rear drum brake backing plates off an XA Falcon ute or van. As far as i'm aware any XA except maybe a 351 with a 9", as I think these had bigger brakes again.
Prefer complete backing plates with handbrake cables if possible. I don't need the drums.
One way to pick them is by the shoe width. The normal Falcon rear drums use the same width shoe as a Holden rear ie 2" or 50.8mm. The XA Falcon ute/van ones i'm looking for use a 2.25" or 57mm shoe. The other way to pick them is by the drums. The standard ones look very much like HK-WB Holden rear drums, the ones i'm looking for look like a HK-HJ Holden front drum. As far as i'm aware there is also a spacer between the axle tube and the backing plate on normal Ford backing plates, and these XA commercial ones don't have the spacer.
There is another wider type again that uses 2.5" shoes and big finned drums as used on GT's, I think the 351 manual XA commercials used these on a 9". The ones i'm looking for will be on a Borg Warner diff, and I think they are Girlock brand (although the name may not be visible anywhere).
What I want them for is for the XW GT 9" I have for one of the Monaros. It currently still has Ford stud pattern, they used XT Falcon rotors on the front to make it Ford all around. I'm changing it to HQ front rotors and L34 PBR calipers. Going to redrill the axles and get sleeves put on the collars to make them HQ pattern and HQ centre bore. Will then run the XA commercial backing plates and HQ-HJ front drums on the back. The rear cylinders and the front calipers are basically then as per XA, so i'll look to running an XA Falcon master cylinder and a HQ inline proportioning valve in the rear circuit which I think is the right way to do it (Dr Terry i'll ask you for advice on this at some stage!). I just want the bigger brakes all around as it'll have a decent engine in it.
Please PM me if you have or know of some I can buy.
