Think it about time someone invested in a 3D printer, surely you couldn't go wrong with one of those
True, but not doing an inspection prior it getting put on the shelf here obviously leads to the current situation
Manufacture everything oversea's to keep the foreign workforces working, thus creating big profit's for shareholder's. Looking after the shareholder's is all that matter's. Of course it's all the various union's fault usually.
"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
This is not correct. Without getting into a silly political debate, everyone down the line is to blame, including the unions.
There are good & bad sides to it, but we have one of the highest living standards in the world & high wages are part of that equation.
The fact that we pay relatively higher wages than countries that we import goods from, makes those imported goods cheaper for us to purchase compared to locally made goods. One of the inputs to our high living standard.
If, for example Rare Spares had some of their items currently made in Asian countries, made here instead, then the price would increase to the point where you & I would find them too expensive to consider buying. This has got nothing to do with shareholders, it is just common sense business practise. In small business, you must make a profit to survive.

Common sense? Where does it end DrTerry? Logically speaking it has to end somewhere, we will put ourselves into a position that can't continue because of this "high living standard". It's not high living, it's considering our selves too good to do menial tasks.
Until everybody in Australia learns to live within their means & we cease paying the lower skilled workers more that those with higher skills, it's not going to end.
There are many out there who don't know what is to be really broke. They still want their 55" Samsung TVs, their 4WD & take home pizzas ever second evening, yet are either on the dole or earning silly money for doing a job which adds bugger-all to the economy (this includes many public servants). The warfare economy is also out of control.

So getting back on topic, does it mean that only goods made in Australia for Australian cars are any good. Well if I gave you plans to make a vacuum pump would it be better made here or overseas. It's down to the plans. A building is only as good as its foundations. Go to the foundation of the product and you will find the fault. From memory the part in question was very suspect from the start. Maybe one In ten lasted. But having said that, a question to Mr Rare Spares. How hard is it to copy a part? Especially one that was designed decades ago!
