Thanks guys will try the stick on foam
Thanks. I have some of that foam. I guess if it works it's a cheap fix but it's a shame that it's necessary.
We also used foam but didn't stick it down In case it gets wet,we also have under felt and a shaggy rug that comes all the way to the tailgate so it fits snug and have no fumes getting in
Can someone confirm if this is a rare spares original thickness tailgate?

Without getting one out of stock on Monday a quicker way to check is they should be 1mm steel. As they come out of the same factory, as the others sold in the market already, this stamp may not be a 100% guide. The Rare Spares ones are made to order. Make sure you have a clean edge to measure . It depends on where you bought it and if it was in a Rare Spares carton. I'll check stock regardless.
Thanks Greg. That would be appreciated.
Looks like the one I've got.....
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Thanks Big Rob.
I am hoping i might have been given a thin metal one by mistake but it appears not. Subject to final confirmation from Greg, it appears i have an original thickness one. I had it professionally fitted by a respected restoration shop and it took a little bit of playing with to get it to sit right. Nothing they could do about the bottom gap/bow unless thin skin is removed, shell straightened, skin spot/plug welded back on and metal work/bog to correct the heat distortion.
Here is the best fit we could get:

Sorry guys. Not sure why the photos are upside down!
I need a new skin if anyone can help? or if you know of a good copy
There is a bloke doing them (skin only) on ebay based in Maryborough. From what I understand a quality product (1.2-1.5mm) thickness which is more like what is commonly referred to as the original 'original thickness'. He used to get around to a few bigger swap meets from time to time. I was going to grab a skin off him if I wasn't able to shrink my original skin satisfactorily.
Nunc est bibendum...
