I also have a new Rares tailgate put away, thinking it was going to be a better fit than the cheap aftermarket ones. The question now is how to replace tailgate? Get a skin folded up & weld on? About ten years ago we cleaned up a Datto 1200 ute to use for a runabout, buying guards, grille, tailgate. The guards were half an inch longer than original due to worn dies & the tailgate not much better. The edges had to be trimmed with a grinder just to get them to fit

It fits in ok at the sides, but you can stick your fingers through the gap in the centre on the bottom. Have spoken to another vanner and he had the same issue with his.
Now this is "SUPPOSED" to be the thick one.
Rares told me that "My van must be the problem" rubbish. I've sat another original tailgate on it and there were no drama's with that one.
l second that same problem here l had to use stick back foam to fill the gap not happy but it works

    Now I'm pissed off!

I have no problem spending money on a good product.

Why would anyone make a product that is supposedly a "replacement part" that isn't an exact copy?

The original tailgate on my van is perfect except where the old bloke that owned it dropped the tailgate on the tow-ball and dented it. It fits and seals and does everything that it's supposed to do. I guess I need to trial fit the new one and see what the story is...., problem is that if I cut the corners out to fit the van it will be impossible to send it back if it doesn't fit!

Problem is finding a good one anywhere near me.
I know a few, but they are all "panel replacers" and have no interest in fixing bent or dented panels. I tried to get them to fix a front apron for one of my Toranas after I hit a 'roo and it's still all bent in the shed.
