Greg contacted me too, and I'm going to fit my new one when I get a chance. I know for sure that my van hasn't been damaged in the rear so if it doesn't fit mine then there is a problem for sure.

Like I said, I'm not saying anything else until I talk to Greg. He is very committed to getting this sorted for us.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

It's good that Rares are making the effort to ease concerns.

We are still working on test fitting some gates. Here is a photo sent to me by a customer in SA who is an ex GMH engineer and had no problem with fitting his.Attachment 12977. These tailgates were first made in Taiwan some time ago and sold in large quantities into the market here. It is not a Rare Spares tool. We were lucky to have factory produce them exclusively in stronger steel for the restoration enthusiasts. Years ago we actually made the skin only in Australia for GMH, but the local maker kept on increasing the price until it was no longer acceptable to GMH. With the demise of many automotive parts manufacturers it has become virtually impossible to have product made here today, let alone the cost to tool up.

Pity you failed with the photo attachment. Always good to preview (Go Advanced) before posting.
Maybe a Moderator can fix it?

Click the little Sheriff's badge to the bottom left of the members post. It's like a 'like' button and adds to the members green dots (reputation).

    No worries Greg.

Mate the issue I don't feel is with the external alignment/panel gap fitment but rather the way the inner shell fails to have the correct shape.
Clearly it has been shown that you can fit your fingers through the gate and beaver edge where this should be a tight fit (especially on a Panel Van) where the seal is quite important for passenger safety. So while your images show a reasonable job visually on the external area of the Ute. It is not showing the horrendous gapping hole in the centre section of the tailgate shell to beaver from the inside.

Think of it this way. If you filled the Ute with say fish tank pebbles and attempted to drive any distance I doubt you'd have much left at the end of the day.

I was contacted by Greg as well, but as we may be under severe weather conditions this weekend the Van may stay in the shed under it's doona.
BUT what i'd like to know is:
If there are a number of this "Bad Batch" around, what do we expect will happen with the tailgate that I have purchased?
Do I expect a refund seeing that the original tailgate had to be re-used?
I don't want an "in store" credit because it's not an incorrect order by me, it is a faulty part.

got a message from Greg at Rares yesterday. He conceded that multiple fittings have proven there is an issue with curvature on inside of the gate and that it will now only be sold to suit UTE NOT VAN. imo they used a bent one when they tooled up for it. In any case this leaves the door wide open for anyone seeking a refund. Not sure how one will go with damages ie it was painted only to find that it doesn't fit. OR the bigger issue as innerz mentioned of fume ingress in panel vans. This could have some serious ramifications...
