It was unreal, the lights and horn worked too, run by a D-cell battery.
Yep, that was my 1st car! 1962 aged about 2 or 3. That's Dads FE Holden beside me in one of the pics too. Always Holdens......

Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Nice pics Rob, I don't mind pedal cars, I have one I have to restore. What's that your mum (well I suppose it is) is dangling out the back door?
Yep, that's Mum. She lives next door to us now. (Not always a good thing!)
And agr071, that red one looks familiar. I restored (resto/modded) a similar one about 8 years ago for a mates son. Leather seat, 2 pack paint, and I machined a set of wheels out of alloy and built a new steering wheel for it.
I'll try to find a pic of it....

Me working on Dads FE Holden 1962.JPGP7044487.JPGThanks, and yep, I was a lucky kid to get that. Dad was an Automotive Engineer too, so I got the bug real early. My oldest memory is the sound of a block and tackle chain being used to pull the grey motor out of that FE. I was probably wrapped in a blanket laying on the garage floor while it was all going on! I passed spanners to Dad before I could read the sizes on them (or knew what they meant) and remember rebuilding the 179 from our EH Premier when I was 7.
A couple of old pics....
And that tin of grease behind me in the pic of the FE is on the shelf in my shed now! Same tin, still with grease in it that I use from time to time.
