How to tell if original engine

It is the the Violet hue metallic colour choice from early HJ. The progression was essentially from Orchid to Cyclamen to Royal Plum for the Sandman era. There was no such hue in HZ - the closest I suppose being Ultra Blue but it wasn't metallic or very purple at all unless you got it in the right light.

It is a nice colour on a GTS or Sandman with the satin black highlights. Not so good on a car like a Kingswood or Premier. Orchid or Royal Plum are no different though.

cant remember exactly how many dozens of monaros, vans, falcons statemans i changed from orchid, wild violets, purr-pull etc to blacks and other colors in the 80's because they were woggy or the paint was rewted in 1982(HZ was relatively new)and people didnt like it, now we spend heaps getting these colors back..go figure hahaaa
