all this talk of sandmans being plated 2 seaters! I bought this sandman brand new and it was plated as a 3 seater not a 3 seater stamped over as a 2 seater (acica ridge build) makes me cry everytime I see the sales invoice

$40 stamp and $50 rego.... geez that would be nice
you will need to post a pic of the ADR plate to show it is stamped with a 3, i can't see any reference to it on the images posted.
pretty bloody cool if that's the case!

No pics of the tags? I assume it had XX7 stamped on the plates and had bucket seats?
no pics sorry ... it was a real sandman

sorry no pics of the plates.. I have read some where it was done a few times from acica ridge plant.. oh it was a real sandman 100%
Hi pvdp1. I received your details through Eric and I replied asking for photos of your plates. It is not unheard of that the plate was mistamped, but not common either. With the sales invoice and the correct plates you still have a Sandman, and one with a good story to boot.
Cheers.
If it was a Sandman it is the second one to come up with the same mistake. The other was also an Acacia Ridge build but a HQ. The more ID plate data I collect the more common errors seem to be. Very few areas of the plates are immune, even the PSN part of tje VIN plate which is in my experience never wrong (as it appears to have been outsourced or under strict control) has been seen to be put on the wrong car (with the wrong stuff in front of the PSN) or even the VIN plates mixed up between adjacent cars.
It is also not unknown especially in HX-HZ for people to buy what they thought was a Sandman (as it had stripes), but to find out years later it was a Kingswood or Ambulance.
^^^ yeah i was a little concerned that the dealer added the 'sandman pack' on above invoice. I thought being factory built they would just be a sandman, period. you don't buy an ss ute with a 'thunder pack'

Nah that was common to call it a "pack". You were buying a Belmont with Sandman pack I have an invoice that reads pretty much the same the the car it's for is 100% XX7 plated.
We are talking early HJ here (it was all pretty new to dealers).

Innuendo is right, the pricing structure saw special vehicle packages costed like any other option. When you look at the top of a broadcast sheet you see the selected model, the TRIM line and all the applied options listed eg:
80270QR 1877-30B A09, A82, XX7, WAX and underneath XX7=M11, M20, N66, U21, XS6 then the tyres.
This HJ would have also listed L31 on the broadcast sheet. Hopefully they weren't charged for the 4spd as it was part of XX7. What this info does do is give further info regarding early HJ Sandman van and carpet, this is a confusing part of HJ XX7 especially early. Early HJ XX7 van lists BB7 (headlining) as part of XX7 but there is no mention of B30 carpet however B30 is supposed to be mandatory with XS6 (buckets) which is part of XX7 and the later HJ order procedure make a point of this in at leats 2 x places. Yet contrary info does come up like this that shows B30 as additional to XX7. My guess is the dealer ordered this with M21 and B30 ticked on the order form where they only needed to tick XX7, L31 and A02.
Hi PVDP1, interesting story, so tell us some more about your sandman? Colour? How long did you have or, or have you still got it? Photos would be great
Edit, just saw colour code on sales receipt, Jade Green metallic. Did you have stripes? white or black?
