What approach have other people taken?
Besides the large amount of rust that I have highlighted, there are cracks where the strut brackets are, big cracks where the slider rods go, other rust areas around the rubber seal and lots of uneven parts and depressions on the outer panel.

you need to look at taking the skin off the frame and really treating the problem from the inside out. once skinned you can weld the cracks to the brackets and treat rust inside. also easier to plate it when it's apart. lots of work. i wouldn't recommend it as if you search hard enough and cough the right kinda $$ one will appear.

I know it's a lot of work. My panel beater said to do it properly it would be a lot of work. I have been looking for a while and am still following a a few leads. Amazingly years ago they were everywhere.

It is always the way.... When I moved from north of Newcastle to Sydney a couple of years back I had two I couldn't even give away. I even asked around on here and no one wanted either one. One was in excellent condition which had already been unpicked and treated internally and was as straight as a die.

Sorry mate, ended up scrapping them, along with a heap of other really good stuff that I now wished I'd been able to keep.
    Nunc est bibendum...
