As per Blocker's post, it is all about the tyres. Traditionally Tyres distinguished normal or lower GVM. I am unsure why late HZ XX7 went up to 2000 as opposed to 1950 for earlier vehicles (including in HZ) . You could be right if for instance the Sandman (as a whole) was re-rated 50kg more than a standard commercial with the same driveline- on account of what?- front spoiler??
Sandaro. Many many moons ago I was the one that researched Tyre placards beyond what a normal human would haha! I wote the hq-wb tyre placard info in the holdenpedia.
I was also the one that made the discovery about the unique 76 placards. All this is not in holden parts books. Again this was years ago!
For everyones info I have also posted a what GVW is it thread.

As said the GVW tag on this van. IS a sandman! 100%. (I have also spoken with Byron today). The tag does not belong to the body. Or it is an error. and should say 2200kg or 1950kg. Or the body has been changed/modified to non sandman.
2000kg is a dead give away that its a sandman. (well that tag is anyway)

...and this is the big problem. These vehicles have been popular for so many years, and so many were made and modified. Therefore it is not surprising that after 40+ years vehicle tags, bodies and chassis have parted ways yet it is these 3 components that identify a genuine Sandman.
This makes it a challenge and also a sense of excitement when we find a genuine Sandman.
Yep very well said. The adr tag and the body tag could even be from different cars. never know....

I'm happy to be educated Jason, do you recall finding a reason for the unique Gvm increase? Should 2000kg on a late hz be added to the quick guide as a definite sandman?
Its only on the Van. Ute never got the updated GVW. I wasn't the one that worked that out. This was some info that I learnt from Byron a while back when I was discussing a 2000kg XX7 (bris) build sandman I had.
So I don't know the reason for the update. Or why XX7 van got it but XU4 didn't... I have never seen a XU4 HZ tyre placard. So I cant tell. Its a unique placard. hard to find! I collected about 100 hq-wb glovebox lids when we reproduced the tyre placards EXACTLY as original many many years ago. I never found one for a HZ XU4...
Yes its 100% an indication on 78 onwards HZ Vans. 2000kg is 100% sandman. (tags anyway)
