But hey, it's a personal thing. You do the back of your ute whatever way you want it! Most people aren't all that rapt in vynacote in utes but it is a much more durable finish.
agreed, i can't see myself getting as angry scratching dull boring vynacote as I would scratching glossy 2k

Which is why I'm doing mine in colour flek (you have trouble finding scratches in it!)

It's funny, but now that you mention it I think my Dads HQ tray was a grey colour. I put it down to bad memory because the ute was white and I assumed the tray was just stained and dirty from use, but the more I think about it I recall a distinct line where the colour changed. Wish I had some good pics of it.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Taily is correct. Not all were body colour.
Why if you restored a aSandman ute why would you paint it incorrect colour in the back?Secondly why would you scratch the paint in the back of a $30000 restored Sandman ute?
If you are expecting to carry a load why not buy a one tonner? Utes are absolute rubbish for carrying anything other than a swag.

My HZ ute was body colour in the tray. I seldom carried anything other than camping gear in it, which was my intention when I bought it anyway. I had never had drama's with it...ha,ha.

I've got an unrestored (and very rough) HZ ute (base model, ex govt fleet)
I can confirm it's body colour in the tray (well, it's mainly bare steel from years of doing it's job, but the little bits of paint that remain here and there are body colour)

Byron told me that all utes up to late 1975 were painted grey vynacoat in the tray, afterwards all were painted colour as per car exterior.
My original question was should I paint it grey, as original or go colour which is more popular?
I prefer the colour but to be a true restore, I should go grey.
