When the shoutbox was added it was full of constant chatter and banter but over the last couple years it is rarely used to chat with anyone. I feel it is now under used and should be removed.
Vote if you want to keep it or remove it and give us your reasons why.
Leave it because it shows the forum is active. Go on other forums without new posts up front and they are uninviting in my opinion.
I don't know the ins and outs of how it works from your side of the fence Blocker but I say keep it as a comment can be made without having to start a thread for maybe just one post.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert.
There are more post notifications going in the shoutbox than there are people chatting and being social.
I can remove the shoutbox all together or I can limit what the shoutbox shows when a post is made;
Only show when a New Thread is created
Only show certain sections
Maybe only have New replies for Bar and Garage sections but New Threads for other sections.
Some people use it to see what activity has been happening but if you click the 'New Posts' button you get a list of all posts since your last visit.

I like it as it is keep it. I just closed the shout box accidentally and didn't like it didn't no we're to look.

Keep it active, its a useful feature for checking new posts and a quick chat. Looks like there would be something missing if it wasnt there. Keeps things more sociable too.

I agree, I like to use it for a quick look at what's been happening, or if there's a popular subject you can quickly see if there are more posts. I like it just the way it is.
