I spoke to GMH customer assistance 1800 number a year or so ago, with details of a van I have, & when he heard the 8WM70 code he said "are you checking if its a sandman?" sarcastically like he spends all day doing this. When I got the report back, it said stuff all, I don't think it even confirmed completion date or original engine number, which is what I was after.

    cheers
    Max

GM Holden customer service is a joke.

After June 78 it is hard to get engine numbers as they stopped recording them. I also found GM to be pretty useless.

Of that I have no doubt at all, his reputation precedes him. I'm asking the question in order to figure out if he does have some records that state specifically "Sandman" or the XX7,XU3 codes, or does he use his and Byrons knowledge to confirm vans such as the 2 above? Would hate for him to start getting enquiries from people who have been told they have a Sandman and pay their $90 expecting that the letter will state as such. I'm sure we've all met a few fellow enthusiasts who get overly emotional about small things.

They will confirm weather it is a sandman or is not before you hand over your $90. You only pay if you want a certificate from them which is pretty generous I think.

SO, because mine is NOT a Sandman, there would be no records of it at all?

Good info. Obviously Ben has thought through the entire business model to ensure smooth non- confusing interactions with his customers.

I sent off VINS to 4 of my cars to some guy and got info back on all of them (this was a few years ago). HQ Monaro, HJ Statesman, HZ Sandman and GTS. Got original engine numbers for 3, selling dealers, whether they had air or steer etc.

I found then very easy to deal with and very open with there response.
I already knew mine were sandmans but the certificates are something to frame.
