Possibly because Persian Sand is metallic and the ute is not a Kingswood. But they say it's XX7 so it must have a derated GVM as well.

As Byron once said, a floor shift 4 speed in a HJ ute with 2 seat cap only came out in an xx7.

Not floor shift. Console shift. You can't tell if it was floor console shift without looking at the body for mounts but floor shift obviously says M20/22/21 on tag.

Yep. Console shift and floor shift are not the same thing.
There were plenty of four speeds with bench seat right up to WB.

Thats exactly right WB but not with 2 seat cap and the original question was on a HJ. On HJ i was led to believe that a four speed with a seating cap of 2 was only available as xx7. You could get a floor shift 4 speed without console but it had a 3 seat cap, remembering this is only the case in HJ as HX and HZ are a totally different story.

No WB's right. You could order a 4 speed floor shift on a non sandman commercial with buckets, thus 2 seater, but you wouldn't get a console. If its got a console and the proper bracket/ mounts then its a sandman, because only sandman had the full console. This is applicable to hj.

As to the original question, I can't see what makes it a sandman. Persian sand was available across the whole Holden range, bar Gemini

its unlikely not to be a sandman but like with anything that is not stamped XX7, XU3 or HX series M70 or 80 with 18V trim - you MUST check for all body identifiers.

No that's not correct as far as I know. That's why checking a HJ console mounts is always one of the only ways to identify a HJ Sandman ute with M20/21 as transmission option. It was the console not the gearbox or bucket seats that was specific to a HJ.

As to how they know that ute is a Sandman you would have to ask Byron or his mate who does those certificates.
