I'm a bit confused at the moment. I read the updated Forum Rules last week and I would like clarification on one of the points, in particular and I quote "- Strictly no advertising other websites or businesses. Community events are allowed within the appropriate section".

I am referring to the new website/business which has been posted and advertised on the forum tonight.

I have no problem with this being done as I think the some of the rules are a bit harsh in some cases, however could someone please explain this apparent contravention of the rules?

i'm guessing that if Bobsmith wanted his question answered in private he would have sent a PM. So let me throw it out there. Perhaps Bobsmith would have been satisfied if Stickthis acknowledged that by advertising he was breaking forum rules and/or he had special permission to do so?

I believe it's a good question and at a glance it appears to be double standards. nonetheless this is Blockers forum, blockers rules and there are some contributors that deserve special privilege imo (ie Greg at Oz wreck). (disclaimer - this is my opinion only)

I would have thought that any external business and/or website advertised would be appropriate on this site as long as it related to obtaining goods and services used to repair, restore or enhance the Holden Sandman. A lot of time can be saved by sourcing other peoples knowledge and contacts. This is also my opinion only!

Exactly, so do I think the same thing. This has nothing to do with stickthis. I am only seeking clarification on the Forum Rules as they now stand.

My point is that very recently the Forum Rules were reintroduced with some very stern warnings about breaking them, infraction notices etc! I am only seeking clarification on the "Strictly no advertising outside websites or businesses" The way that is written, by using the word 'strictly', one would think there are to be no exceptions to this? Obviously there is, so maybe the rule in question needs to be rewritten to something like this or similar " no advertising of outside websites or businesses without moderator's approval? This would make it clear to all.

Additionally, is it now forbidden to mention where one obtained a product or service - E.G. from Rare Spares, One Stop Trimming etc, etc? The way I read the Forum Rules it could be argued that it does.

thanks for that vombil...im guessing by the number of posts bob has he is new here ?? i havent read up on the new and updated forum rules to see what bob is having a whinge about but he should really go and look at contributions to this site and the sandman community by jason from stick this decals and may be consider a pm to the owner of the site for clarification as to why jason is allowed to advertise his business here.

So we havnt got a business thread where you could put your business name down
we have one on another forum im on it all car related companies
maybe we could have something like that

Don't take things out of context, the line clearly says;
- Strictly no advertising other websites or businesses. Community events are allowed within the appropriate section. If you are not sure, please ask a moderator before posting.

We have had arrangements in the past with business owners permitted to promote their products, however it is a private arrangement in consultation with me.
Stickthis does have a section on the forums for his business and has had this since the early day, no need for a general business section.

If you have a business and you wish to advertise, then send me a PM.
