    Rust Removal

After trying the molasses rust removal method,

    http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...light=molasses

I have gone a little high tech and moved on to the electrolysis method of rust removal using a battery chrger.

I got hold of a Bulka bin, IBC, 1000L Pod, which ever term you prefer. I cut the top out and then welded some grid mesh together to form a square.
Placed the grid inside the bin to form a field and filled the bin with water and washing soda, (dont use baking soda), about a cup per gallon.
I then setup an eye bolt through some hardwood and I was ready to go.

Here is the same rim after 24hrs in the tank.

I then gave the radiator support a go.

All I did was pressure wash them when i got them out of the tank. Stripped rust, paint and everything else.
Works a treat. Now just need to find something to take a whole car!

Great result, looks to be well worth the effort to set the system up. Big time saver off the wire wheel

Great post the kind of stuff we love to see on this forum!

I would like to see what the metal looks like after priming and painting I'm so used to panels being blasted is this method only good for internal parts or would you be happy with panels as well?

Thats fantastic and you don't have a drum full of chemicals that are costly and difficult to get rid of.

Looks good. How do you stop the surface rust after you pressure wash them?

Impressed current Cathodic protection. An underground steel pipeline with an isulation coating defect will stay rust free and shiny for years as long as it is protected by an effective level of an impressed current (DC) or sacraficial anode cathodic protection system. Works well for rust prevention and removal.
