Working as a mechanic in Brisbane about 20 odd years ago, we had an old fella ( customer ) that had a sweet metallic blue VL turbo he had owned since new. I had done a service on it and he mentioned that he was thinking about selling it. I was down at the bank that afternoon chasing a loan. It would have been about 7 or 8 years old at that stage and had less than 50K klms on it. Absolutely loved that car. Wish I still had it. Actually sold a schmick VB V8 for it.

Ozbox got it right. he said we are only custodians until it passes onto the next person who will care for it or see it to it's death. no one has a car 'forever' (well not many people do anyways)

you can't keep them all. just all the memories.
