    Western Sydney Van

Guys I am wondering if anyone with a complete van is located out North West Sydney way and would mind me have a look at there van so I can see how a few things fit. In particular I want to see how the door and upper tail gate seals sit and also want to see how the carpet sits in the van. I need to fit some carpet to my van and have to cut some holes to allow the carpet to pass over the console brackets and shifter but I am paranoid I will stuff the task up.. I want see if the rear piece of carpet butts hard up against the the lip on the rear floor(load area) and where it stops under the dash. Send me a PM if you can help me out.

not much adjustment in door seals mate so they sit where they sit. the carpet is super easy. you can afford to make mistakes as the console will hide them. start with slits rather than carving holes. all carpets are molded so make sure your rear foot well and front foot well are shaped and fit snug and you will see that carpets do not ride up as high as you'd like at the front or rear. last one i bought fit very poorly on front section. just fit a rear section today and it was OK

Hi Guys, my weekend has been all about carpet fitting as well, can someone tell me the distance from the stitched edge of the rear carpet to the centre of the rear console bracket?

Your carpet in 2 sections, front section and rear section? Factory only had front section of carpet, finishing under seats, then rubber covering for rear bit. Do a trial and see how far back you want carpet to cover, I would suggest to the level of the base of support brackets that hold up the leading edge of the tray, so really only about 4-5 inches back from Console bracket.

This is not correct. I have the original carpets out of my HZ van and they were in three pieces with NO rubber. The front section finished under the seat then there are two rear sections which fit under the seats.

I'll take some pictures of the rear sections of carpet tomorrow and try and post them. The two rear sections are not the same shape. There is one that straddles the rear of the console and one which I think fits under the handbrake lever?

That's Interesting Bob. They were only ever in one of two configurations: front carpet with rubber mat under the seat (my early '75 Melbourne ute was this config from new) or two individual pieces of carpet (front and rear). If yours are/were original Bob they'll have individual GM part number tags sewn into the hem somewhere. Also had a quick look at my Parts Manual - it only shows front and rear mats, not in two seperate rear pieces. Keen to see what you've got!

    Regards,

    Dave.
