Bench Seat and Floor Based Auto Shifter

I have a bit of a logistical issue where I need to get three blokes to an event in Victoria at the end of November in a my bucket seat van. The van is set up at the moment with 2 x bucket seats and a floor shift auto. Will a auto floor shift work with a bench seat? Has anyone owned a van with that spec?

Is it a genuine 2 seater? Issue you have is if it is seat cap of 2 on the id tags you legally are not aloud to carry 3 people without an engineers report etc.

Ive been considering making a dicky seat for my Z sandman ute for my son. So all 3 of us mrs, son and I can go for a cruise.. But will need an engineers cert done.

Sorry Jason but I think you are wrong. If you read the NCOPs VSB14 section LK Seating, it is permissible to install the manufacturers optional seating as long as the factory anchor points and ADR compliant seat belts are used. If you want to go the option of a dickie seat, I have one on e-bay at the moment http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271995580...84.m1555.l2649. It is the falcon type one which I have been in 2 HZs I have had over the years.

The van I bought was a bench seat column shift manual with a 3 seat capacity on the tag so no issues from a legal perspective. It would be a one off and the buckets would go straight back in after the event.

That's in NSW. Not sure about other states. Well for historic rego anyway. Has to be original equipment though. Auto was never available as floor shift with bench seat though so not sure how that goes. Is there room to fit the t bar? The 4 speed had a big loop in the shifter so you could move the seat forward.

What was the bench seat out of, that had the centre section cut out some??

    - - - Updated - - -

The only problem I found is that if the person in the centre is older then 10, the seating becomes very uncomfortable. The centre persons shoulders are in front of the other people's. Also you find you have to sit on a slight angle to compensate for this.

I used to have a large beanbag in the back of mine for the extra people. Obviously it wasn't overly legal.
Got pulled in for a RBT blitz one Friday night coming home from the movies with 8 people in the car. Had 4 coppers walking around the car checking number plates and rego stickers. Everyone in the back was laying flat on the floor still as a rock and we got through ok. My clutch leg was shaking with nervousness a bit. Lucky I didn't stall it taking off ( or worse, chirp the tyres)

Yep, chuck a beanbag in the back and run the gauntlet! Very slim chance of getting caught and you'll feel like an outlaw the whole trip.

And do you really want to drive from Sydney to Melbourne and back with a pair of big sweaty blokes right beside you?
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
