As the pic at the start of the thread shows, theres a noticable difference in emblem inserts.....you either want the right badge or a 'good enough' repro badge. Its all in the details.

Obvioulsy buying a bent and broken wheel at that price isnt common sense and yes you run the risk of getting in trouble with the boys in blue. I paid over that amount purely because it wasnt broken or bent. Sure the rim is slightly worn, but its still very very usable and will require a good clean and maybe a lick of paint on the spokes.....but having the choice of buying rare spares repro wheel or a genuine used in good condition, ill take the used one any day of the week. Whats nuts is paying $300 for a broken wheel......wouldnt part with any of my hard earn money for a broken wheel.....its a a useless part essentially that is only good for being hung in the garage.

I would probably pay $400 for an original Sandman wheel in reasonable condition .. certainly wouldn't pay $800.. maybe $600 if it was really really good condition.. mine are all reasonable condition.... except one that is good condition (a lot of grain still showing)... I consider the others crap as they are quite smooth around some of the rim. I don't have broken or bent wheels but you can't really tell their condition from photos and rely on a sellers description when buying off the net.

Having said that, one of my HQ GTS wheels can easily be converted to a Sandman wheel once Jason fixes his Sandman badge and prints them as per original... then I will have an original wheel with a nice Sandman badge for far less than $400.

i just got a repro one off Jason to put in one of my wheels just to make it a bit different ( building a Hj sandy replica from my old Hz ute ) so it's not a proper resto just a fun vehicle that I have most parts for has an efi and auto so just a tribute on the outside .
