Use it if you want , I want to build a mock up Hj sandy ute as I want ,and it will have stripes and the Hq styled steering wheel badge. the side stripes are the same style and I think it will be cool , not correct but still cool and it's the way I want it !

Maybe you consider buying a complete new wheel and cap from Rare Spares and use your own "SANDMAN" badge, which should fit in the new cap.

It is a hq I am restoring, I have made a few personal choice mods, like Kingswood door trims, carpet, removed the Belmont badges, probably do the chrome taillight surrounds as well, but I have always thought the wheel in the previous pic was the right one, however I have noticed the rare spares font is different, that's why I asked the question. Also it is on a 5mm wheel.

    Cheers Vic

The Rare Spares badge insert has font problems but is close to correct. Yours on the other hand looks like somebody has been playing.
Have you got a closer picture of your badge? See page 1 of this thread for the comparison.

These 2 photo's are of my wheel emblem, the second photo is dark but you can clearly see the raised font section. The first photo I posted in my original question is from a post put up by blocker a couple of years ago. The font on these 2 wheels is different to the others, this wheel is off a hq van I owned in the late 80's & to be honest I didn't realise the font differences until lately, reading some old posts got me interested.
    Cheers Vic

It was Greg at Ozwreck that had the other in that thread. He states the insert is plastic with raised lettering.
I don't know the history of these. Could be a trial version (prototype) could just as easily be aftermarket. Either way it was designed around the HQ.
All the originals I have ever seen and that is quite a few have been aluminium with a screen print.

    agreed.
Greg's i believe would be a custom cast one from the 70's. But again who knows. Maybe an early 3D print? haha!

We are currently waiting on our laser cutter guys to get the horn inserts to us. So we can print them exactly as the originals. A member on here was kind enough to help us with an original. Hope to have them finished in about 2 weeks.

Cool ,now I'll have to get another one off you! The other will look good on a broken wheel hanging on the shed wall .
