HQ and HJ decals were dealer fitted as James says. Supplied in the glovebox by GMH upon dealer delivery.
I don't believe any HQ/HJ Sandman would've been supplied without the fluted guards. Unless it was fiddle with by the dealer and you would need plenty of proof.

These NOS stickers used to come up on eBay a bit. Even back then the advice on here was to not use them. They are a great collectors item but the glue will be deteriorated and they may crack on application.
They are a cool thing to have all the same.

AFAIK Q sandmans need a 'seat separator' bracket at the rear of the trans tunnel. This dictates a console shift as apart from a floor shift. Add this and you can make yourself an HQ sandman ute providing your tags show a 2 seater, a trans other than a 3 speed manual and falls within the dates.
pretty piss weak way to authenticate a car that people are asking massive $$ for now

Hopefully now that Holden Historical Services are doing reports from factory records such practices will be stamped out or at least discouraged. I think if I was buying what was touted to be a genuine sandman I would invest in a report (if the seller didn't have one and I couldn't positively identify it myself) just for peace of mind before handing over my $$$

It will make them easier to find if people are building them now..... buyer beware as always.

??? That's why you check the tags. My HX ute had column shift auto and 6 banger in it. The clutch pedal was still in it! I reckon any factory V8 is worth a second look. Someone like Qutes had stripped all the good stuff and re-sold it.
Why less Utes? They got worked harder. No one knew they made Sandman utes generally speaking so after the first re-spray they just became a work hack or B&S ute. Plus there would have plain old been less made I reckon.
