What would be the value in having just the tags? Especially if they are stolen.
Exactly, mine are in a envelope at home for safe keeping until they need to go back on the car. How could you do a proper respray with them left on?

I dont have a problem with the tags being removed. My van I have removed the tags because its in a shed qiute a distance from my house and security is basic but feel better knowing the tags are safely tucked away. My ute is parked with the van and still has the tags on and it worries the shite out of me leaving them on. Will probably take them off but only for the reason if someone does ever swipe my vehicles they cant punt them off as the real deal without them. Call it paranioa but these days I dont trust many people unfortunatly!

Well I had to replace the whole scuttle from my van so I had no choice, I would have no problem taking them off if all the numbers match then there should be no issue if it is genuine or not. At the end of the day you all would have done your homework on what you have so selling it to someone else if you want would not pose a problem.
    We know what we have.

I think if you do the right thing and insure you car like I did mine with laid up cover, then if my tags get stolen from my van they are useless to anyone. It would Be hard to rebirth a sandman from my tags you would have to steal the whole van and then prove I sold it to you. If you just stole the tags good luck trying to register it, when I still have the van they came off.

The tags are worthless if you report them stolen. That's the opposite to re-birthing isn't it. Steal the identity and then put it on another car. Doesn't really work. You need a clean identity not a stolen one. Hence why when they knocked of my ute years ago they pulled the tags off and through them in the gutter.
Probably help if you have photos of the tags and some proof of ownership if it's not registered.

The tags are worthless without the car for that matter.
