    snow sandman

    question guys, rebuilding a genuine sandman at the moment, suppose to be l32 m20, when i bought it ,it had an auto, when i went to put it back to 4 speed, there are no holes for the clutch to go through. could it have been a special order, and they changed it to auto and not manual, and didnt change the compliance ?all matching numbers car [ van ]

    OK, a couple of questions.... Which model sandman, rod mechanism or cable clutch? & whats a snow sandman??

    its a hj, which probably would have been rod and rat trap, want to put cable, i am snow sandman

    OK cool, with the rat trap set up, the rod that looks like fencing wire goes throu the plate at the base of the steering column, & can be changed for an automatic plate that is blank. Or the column might have been changed at some stage. If you want to fit a cable clutch you will have to drill a hole in the firewall, if you check a HX-Z-WB you will see where the hole is.

    As Max said, the plate with the hole is able to be unbolted and changed to manual from auto and vice versa. Its the plate the steering column goes through, with a clutch it has a second hole to the engine side of the column

    there is still no place to bolt the clutch pedal to, i have been building cars for 38 yrs and this is the first one i have came across, know all about rat traps and cables, was asking if this could have been a special order as nothing
    has been changed

    the cable does not go through the plate at the bottom of the steering column it goes through the plate at the end of the beam that your clutch pedal bolts to

    I think we're talking different points in the system. Anyway all interchangeable, if someone converted it to auto and did the job right you probably couldn't tell now.

    Does it have a square hole for the wiring harness in the fire wall.
