    Heading South

My son and I are driving to Sydney next month. We 'll be leaving Qld via Goondiwindi.
Which way would be the best (fastest) to get to Sydney?

I drove the coast road about a month ago and it was terrible. Road works, speed cameras, i would go the inland through Warialda down to Tamworth down the New England.

If you have to go through Goondi then your best bet is to keep going down the Newell to Coonabarbran, Mendoran then across to Dundadoo, Gulgong, then at Mudgee you`ll start seeing the signs to Sydney. The roads from Goondi to Mudgee are pretty good, beautiful countryside too. Can`t tell you anything about Mudgee to Sydney though...

Take a map with though just in case... lol

Defiantly go Coona Mudgee Lithgow. Two ways through mountains are either via Great Western Highway through Katoomba or via Bells Line. Katoomba brings you into Sydney on the M4 through Penrith. Bells line into Sydney onto the M2 through Richmond. Bells line has more twisty stuff if you are into that. Dunedoo is about half way from Gundi. Couple of cafes and bakeries and I nice park if you want to pull up. Servo too.

Also, if you are going to the Northern side of Sydney (Hornsby area) it's just as quick to go from Dunedoo to Cesnock via the Golden Highway and then down the freeway to Sydney. You go straight past Classic Oz Wreck in Toronto that way and you can call in and get any parts you need from Greg.

If it was me I'd be getting onto the New England Hwy as quick as I could without losing any ground. Go out of Gundy on the Newell Hwy to Narrabri then to Quirindi then straight down the New England to the Freeway. But their is more than one way to skin a cat so whatever blows your hair back. Drive safe mate.

Last time I went down there I went through Toowoomba to Beaudesert and over the range past Wooden bong and down the sunshine highway? Good road not much traffic and the mountain areas are beautiful. That NE/SE corner is an absolute PITA and I will never go there again.

If you get onto the 'Where is' website and put in your start and end point it will give you a few different ways to go including (fastest way with and without tolls) and a few other options.

It will give distance and travel times also. I find it pretty accurate.
