must be the magic holden number. i use 1 & 1/2 front coils for VK-VS and 1 coil on rear for ute. absolutely perfect and you're right it does not impact on handling like putting in SL's or SSL's. Cutting seems to drop height but not make them soft and sloppy like lowered coils

Cutting coils? There is now less spring to carry the weight with no increase in spring strength. Insurance companies would love that method I bet.
"Soft and Sloppy" sounds more like blown shocks and bushings rather than springs. You can also get springs with different spring rate, I've got king springs on mine and they are very firm.
Cutting sounds like a bad idea.
Cutting Springs and lowering blocks...an insurance companies dream. Now that you've put that out in the public domain, I'd reconsider that
I wouldn't be cutting springs on a $50k Sandman. Quick look on eBay, between $140 and $190 will get you a brand new lowered pair.

word up with all the fear mongering? i just spoke to a mate who was assessor for RAC for 15 years... he's never checked for cut springs. insurers argue about 'who' is at fault, not what. if you have an insurance company looking to dodge payment, you are with the wrong insurer.
Screwed shocks will cause major braking issues far sooner than a missing coil.
