    Thanks mate
    The plot thickens :shifty:

Should it have rat trap clutch for HJ?

I assume it should have the short spacers and the lower pulley is incorrect?

How's the engineering on the spare wheel holder. Is the lower retainer the correct one for the gts rim's?

Rat Trap for HK to HZ. I'll scan the pages from my HJ catalog for you if you want?

It looks like a standard lower retainer for the spare wheel - not the GTS rim version - checkout pic's in Oz's Workshop threads - http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...el-winch/page3

to my knowledge the rear sway bar was part of the RTS package fitted to HZ as part of the model changes, so if it is a HJ then it shouldnt have one, no.

regarding the clutch, i thought they were all cable??? anyone able to send me a good link on what this means? google wasnt too helpful

Rear swaybars where part of the RTS package yes. The diff had mounts welded on not u bolts also ;)

Clutch. Rat trap was used in HJ. Half cable/half mechanical started in HX sometime I think? HZ had full cable clutch. hmmm hoping I got that close.

Spacer bushes on the steer pump dont look to be thick enough. Being picky I know. Originals where about 7/8 in dia. Where as those look to be 3/4 at the most. Or 1/2 pipe maybe. Maybe they are just too long making them look smaller? Will have to measure some for you.

Bottom pully on motor. Aslong as its a 2 V and hasnt got the extra 1 V bolted onto it its correct. The extra front V was used for the A/C.

If those spacers are to long on the pump it would run the belt off? It must be running in the front ac groove on a triple pulley? Hard to see though. Good luck finding a 2 groove pulley.

wiper motor is correct for early hj with the pump...
bottom pulley on motor is commodore hence the long spacers on the pump.hq to wb pulley,1st v should be hard against harmonic balancer not an inch out..
rear sway bar is aftermarket correct and is seen on plenty of utes vans up to hz..last hj sandman i wrecked had exactly that same bar and is now going on sinbox...not all utes/vans/tonners ive wrecked over the years had sway bar brackets welded to diffs.
clutch arrangement is full rat trap no cable for hq hj..
pbr master cylinder is the correct replacement for the old cast large nut..

Not picking on your post Jason, had to start somewhere.

HQ and HJ have the full rat-trap clutch setup as Greg says.
HX have the half cable, half rat-trap.
HZ until ~mid 1978 have the same as HX. After that they have the WB style full cable.
HJ had no rear sway bar.
HJ had big nut like HQ. That master cylinder is a HZ aftermarket with th rear resevoir on the front of the cylinder.
Fan shroud is wrong, should be no shroud.

Don't worry about judges. Just build it up and enjoy it. In my opinion the only Sandmans that should be left original are those really original untouched examples. Anything else restore as you like, just make them look standard. No-one cares if they have a injected 304 or a stroked 308 in them. Just don't do stupid things like cut holes in the floor for some stupid oversized gearbox, or to fit Commodore seats or doof doof speakers. I reckon there would be nothing cooler than an original looking HJ Sandman ute or van that has an injected, stroked 5 litre in it (with QT engine number), 4L60 box, original diff, widened 15" GTS rims, power steer, factory HJ-WB A/C and original looking interior albeit with hidden modern sound and cruise control. No-one would do this to an untouched car, but why not do it to yours? It'll cost you about the same as a concours attempt and be much easier!
