I always hear that Toyota commercials give a 'better' resale value but the original purchase price is always 'better' as well if you know what I mean. So what does 'better' really mean in the overall scheme of things. Does it mean they hold their value more compared to the purchase price ?

Obviously not the same as commercials, I have a mate that owns 9 or 10 fast food franchises, and only uses Toyotas, and when I quizzed him about the costs involved having Toyotas for the delivery drivers to abuse, crash & get broken into. He said definitely best bet as not only higher resale, but at least could be sold, some of the lesser cost cars are throwaway after 2 years. So in a bad economic time Toyota would be worth extra cost.

    cheers

It's a transfer box or case. It's another gearbox.

Perhaps easier resale because people know they keep going even when second hand.
Lower purchase price for a Jeep sure doesn't stack up against the higher purchase price for a Toyota Prado at trade in time.

If it has electronic shift on the fly it uses an electric actuator to engage the transfer case.

Its a fairly simple thing to cost $1700 dollars. Mazda is as bad as Toyota for spare parts. Possibly able to get an after market one, its only a linear actuator.

My F250 has ESOF and I hate it. Im looking at converting it to the old gear shift lever, as ive had to replace the GEM module the actuator and the switch over the last 18 months. Gear stick works 100% of the time.
