geoff..if you have read that discussion then you know what i think so i wont bother putting anymore comment in...![]()
I am just learning at 43 about all of this stuff, so just interested to read the various discussions. I had an FE Ute with FC Chassis rails and no one really cared in that club scene, but they are not as collectable as Sandmans.
My original HX Sandman van was so badly rusted when I found it again and re-purchased it. I later decided it would not be viable to repair. At the time I was trying to find a good body for it, but just did have the space so it had to go. I would now with a little hindsight have kept it and put the money into restoring the shell.

sandmans werent collectible before all the drivers of them when they were new started having mid to late life criseses..
then add to that the anility of restorations bought about by all the information available on the internet and you have all these people trying to make there sandmans perfect again.
actually you can broaden my statement to all restorers of collectible cars.
the removing of tags is a bullpg13 argument as to do a correct restoration you need to remove the tags for a couple of reasons.. to make the paint perfect ..or if your soda blasting or sandblasting they must be removed and to protect your tags from theft in the panelshop/mechanical shop or wherever your car may be out of your site while under restoration.
haha some of us are just building them to drive them... and I will add some incorrect things to mine like courtesy lights switches just cause I like 'em.
On the whole I will try and stay HQ as much as I can especially on things that are hard to just delete. Cant see me doing the car show thing... not going to clean the whole car with a toothbrush until 4am the morning of the show. lol I'm flat out sweeping out my Hilux and I put the hose on it once in a while.

mauser Exactly, couldnt agree more mate. Im building my van as my weekend warrior. (wish it could be a daily, unfortlunaty the boss says "i gotta have a back seat in case your clients want to come with you." Personally, I reckon a property manager in a Holden Panno would be kinda cool.) Im not, going to be "anal" in the restoration of it, it wont be perfect, it wont be anything its not ment to be (sandman copy) it is afetr all, a WB, it will always be a WB. It will be my mine, fitted out to my specs and the look Im after. I want it to drive and enjoy, get em on the raod, not in sheds or museams, the only shows I would do are the Rotary show n shines etc, the stuff that benefits the local communities.
Yep me three (or was it four??).
I want mine to look original to a large degree, but I've wanted one for twenty years now and I just really want to drive & enjoy it (if it ever gets finished:knockout.
Not really a competetive person, so I'll probably drive it to the shows, park it and look at everyone else's!!
