HZ Valencia Van - value help

Today I went and inspected a Sandman but I'm not sure its worth it.
List of things that need doing to get it on the road.
    New windscreen $500
    Taking out the 308 & auto, swap over to a 253 motor & manual box ( Plated L32 & M20 cost $3000)
    Road-worthy and Rego $2000
    Later a re-paint $5000 +
    New radiator $+
    Interior re-furbished $1000
Removal of Gas tank and fittings $250
New breaks front and rear. $500
I'd like your opinion about weather it's worth it
By the way its an XX7
    450,000 K's
    The owner is asking $35,000

$35,000 seems a bit steep considering the mods and what you consider is needed to get it on the road.

It does appear pretty straight though and the colour is cool.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

On the plus side, you'd get $50 at the scrap yard for those wheels

35k seems a little to much for what work you still have to do

you wont get interior refurbish for $1000

Totally agree with you here especially the interior if done correctly and properly it would be that much again plus

In all honesty, I like the look of this car, & I wouldn't rule it out at this price (or near) because of the non original motor/box. Rust & body are much more price deflating items in my opinion. It would depend if you could live with it as is or whether it needs a heap of work to be roadworthy. Looks better than a lot of barn finds asking $10k upwards...
    In one piece - tick
    tagged XX7 - tick
    windowless - tick
cool colour - tick... if original
    just my observations

    cheers

There is no way I would be pulling out a 308 to refit a 253 if it's not the original engine to the car. The 308 is adding value in my eyes.
The car is not original to the plates anyway. As Max points out it has some rather good points. Throw up the rest of the plate details. Price seems a little steep to me but all of these old Sandmans seem high in price to me.

No, not really a fan. I had a set on a HQ ute 202/3sp in the 80s, & they looked fine on it...But it wasn't a $35k car

I got a text today from the owners partner who I spoke to when I looked at the van now says her partner now wants the $50,000 that was listed on gumtree.
I told her that it was only worth $32,000
Things might look good in a picture but up close it wasn't.
