18v on a HX Holden van is nearly a definite Sandman but it depends on if all the tags and chassis match.

For what it's worth I really don't know whether it's a genuine or not but the GTS mirrors are not mounted in the correct position?

    Oh God bring back Byron!!!
People if you don't know don't comment and confuse the issue or cloud it with oh I know where there is one for sale.
Deanandeva, what you are looking at is a Mandarin Red 253/ Trimatic XU3 Sandman, as long as the chassis number on the tag matches the stamping on the frame.
Adelaide body, completed in Sydney, that is why your chassis number is AHX 28417 S. not 5, you have that wrong. The 2200kg means that it had commercial tyres on it and a 14cwt payload making it an XU3, check all the other details that make a Sandman (console brackets, headlining etc) but in HX it is pretty sure to be a Sandman with 18V Slate Black interior as this was a Kingswood only trim in HX.

The A is on the ADR plate to signify Auto which was added when ADR27A was introduced, it continued until early HZ (11/77). I'm not up with the reason(s) why it is there though.

Its virtually a van version of our ute, same colour same Adelaide body, only ours was assembled in Dandanong, and is manual. I am fairly certain it would be a sandman with 18V trimcode, as 18V in HX HZ is a Sandman.
HZ Jasmine Yellow Windowless Sandman, now being driven everywhere and is finished!
HZ Madeira Red Windowless sandman now Sold to Bigrob
HX Mandarin Red Sandman Ute finished, and club registered
1979 HZ malachite windowless van with 308 5spd, all chromed up and shiny finished and named "The Player"

    Hi All,
First post so be gentle! Looking for nice van to cruise and enjoy when I came across the above.
Came across the HX van above in SA. I just spoke to the dealer (Adelaide) he tells me everything is as it should be APART from the chassis. This is HJ. Also the 253 (not original) has two bent conrods so he is probably going to put in a HZ era 308 in.

Just after thoughts and opinions from the forum on these "non standard" aspects of the van and how it would affect value etc etc

He also told me the van was resprayed (Mandarin Red) about 8 years ago but has been stored outside for the past 4 years (a crime I know!) so has some surface rust on the roof gutters (not that I can see it in the photos).

Any and all input welcome. I am in WA so need all the info I can get before deciding to make the trip!

It all depends on what YOU want...
A standard van or custom one.
Obvisley the things wrong with the one you talk about would detract from a genuine sandman ...
But if you where looking at modifying somewhat then it's probably a good start..
It all comes down to what your looking for and how deep your pocket is ..
