Any sand blasting or variants can cause panel warping in large flat areas. Most times those areas are left for the panel shop to strip via conventional means.

I had mine bead blasted...no warpage....but then again he's been doing it for 30+ years as well and knows all the tricks.
I know it can happen if you use garnet or sand but I wouldn't have thought soda would do it.

I think it's more of a habit than anything else. Sand blasters transition over to soda blasting and carry traits along with it. Having said that it's really a very minor thing to have only that area left for the panel shop to clean up, and sure beats trying to repair a warp or ripple in that area. Better to be safe than sorry.

when we get cars blasted we tend to get the apprentice to strip the bonnet and boot by hand.

    Fair enough....just thought I'd ask:lol:
So now all the fun starts...good luck with it.
BTW...mine had about the same amount of rust in the rear of the roof, just on the other side is all. It looked as bad as yours but was a relatively easy repair. Time and patience is all you need.

It's a fair question worth asking mate. Plenty of others would not know but don't ask.

    Work has begun

Today we pulled out the motor, which we have sold to a guy for his boat, kept the carby which is a Rochester, and a major issue with the nosecone which our panel beater says will take some too much time to repair, but can be done if we don't' find another one. Also the guard is badly dented on the passenger side, but we have a doner HZ we could get one from, and a rear quarter panel we found had been badly repaired in its last repaint, still working on that, but we have the technology

The doors are all done and undercoated with the first undercoat

And the bonnet has been panel beaten and undercoated

    Beaver

Cut out the old beaver which had been smashed in like hard, and hidden by the stato bumper, and new one cut out of from the wreckers

    the doner HZ ute (oz's)

    Today's progress

Tidy up some dents on the edges around the beaver panel

Cut rust out of left hand rear quarter and weld plate in on the inside and outside

Weld in floor stiffner, and spare tyre chassis winch framing, which was taken from oz's HJ ute, before we knew it was going to be his. :errf:
