I got the HQ type (and possibly early Hj) for my HZ simply because I thought that they look better than the later full chrome ones! Personal choice, but I'd also put GTS guards on my HZ if I was to repaint, again personal choice - no dispute they definitely look better ( in my opinion)

Logically the full chrome nuts were made for the polycast wheels because the rally wheel nuts didn't look right with them. The rally wheel nuts do suit the rally wheel, but I guess Holden decided that they only needed one nut and the chrome would work with both styles.

Jeza, I agree with you on both your points, the rally nuts suit the rally wheels better than chrome and Holden should have never dropped the GTS guards on the Sandman, since it's original concept was to be a GTS van of sorts.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Guys... really.... Holden didn't keep using silver GTS dashes up after the change.... you don't see HZ's with silver GTS dashes in them because... hey... we have heaps left over so lets use them up.... seriously... Holden like any other company had strict quality control checks.... not to mention parts accountability... each Holden plant would have a standing order with outside suppliers and would has shipped in what they needed on a weekly basis, they wouldn't have the space to stockpile huge quantities of parts for all the models being manufactured.

not to mention the need to supply parts to the Nation wide dealer network, any left over parts would be sent to dealers for spares and once they ran out would be superceded by the replacement part. I remember going in to Holden in 1981 for a silver GTS dash to replace a broken one in my HX Sandman, the only ones available were the base model flat black ones seen in WB. You couldn't even get a HZ black chrome one.

Most dealers today don't even stock spare parts at all, they order them in as needed from the manufacturer who in turn orders them from the supplier.

    So lets get some evidence.
    Can all owners of HJ parts manual post the following information;

HJ Parts Manual publish date and revision date
List wheel nut description and part numbers

This will help determine a possible change over date.

    HQ
    NUT - WHEEL Hub Bolt
NUT ..................... Rally Type Wheel ..............2825904......20

    HJ
    NUT - WHEEL Hub Bolt
NUT ..................... Rally Type Wheel ..............2825904......20

Mine is from 1977 which only shows
9939942 - the full dome nut

Yes they are Rally II Wheels and the nuts are HQ style (probably correct for early HJ).
Wheels are painted in reverse colours it would appear.

Reverse colours? Would GMH have done that, or owner?

It's not how it left the factory. Likely an owner done thing at a later date.
