As stated Roof Racks are dealer fitted approved accessories. They were common to Station Wagons but no reason a dealer wouldn't have fitted it to a Panel Van or even Sedan if requested.
There is also no reason to suggest it's more correct to be fitted to one over the other it was just another accessory.

I do have a feeling that "maybe" the later "Vacationer" Wagon models might have been factory fitted.
But I don't say this with 100% confidence as it's not something I've ever paid much attention to - (earth shattering I know!).

Mad Max's van wasn't a Sandman but I remember hearing that it was the original Tangerine Dream, could have been misinformed.

NB just googled the Mad Max van and Tangerine Dream, pretty sure they are two different cars

This thread isn't to do with the rack for sale on Facebook is it?

Mad Max van had ford headlights, I think I was told by someone who is in the know, that it was owned by someone in the cast, who was an extra or someone who worked on the movie, as they had some issue with the one they were supposed to use, and borrowed the Tangerine one.

I'd always thought it was (obviously modified). The GTS guards, dash, steering wheel and full console being good pointers. I could never see a shot of the headlining (the clincher) to determine for sure, maybe you've got a bigger, clearer TV than me!

There you go, never thought of them. Any other evidence known of, like knowledge or other shots of van not shown in the movie for instance.
