Nope! Sorry, but I don't care how much petrol costs, you won't catch me owning an electric cockroach.

I might have this all wrong but if this type of car becomes very popular in say around 10 years and reduces the demand around the world for petrol, then wouldn't petrol become cheaper. ??

Very poorly written article. First off, they're not "orders". It's a refundable holding deposit to put your name on the list. Secondly, there's no way in hell it'll come in under $50k once all the import taxes get added.

But yes, people don't like paying for fuel and the electric car does suit the needs of a good portion of the population. Most owners will have a second or third car as well. I'd be all over one in a heartbeat if I had the cash and the need. The costly part of commuting in our family is the parking, not the fuel. A $5000 motorbike solves both problems. Parking is free and the fuel costs about $15 a month.

an impressive 300klm range..... so it's an around town car only, won't be doing any Brisbane to Sydney runs. Wonder how long it takes to re-charge the batteries after a 300klm trip.

Aparently they can 80% charge in around 20 mins to half an hour from what I've read. Battery tech seems to be finally catching up a bit.

Holy crap!!!!!! $60 to $80 US per battery swap for a 300klm range???? Think I'll stick with my petrol guzzling Landcruiser, it's cheaper to run.

Nah, it's the wifes bike, 3km from home to the centre of the city, and it's an injected Wr250X supermotard that runs on fumes. My old 1000cc sport bikes used to go through fuel quicker than the car.
