so the prefix for the engine number is 308h ????
so the prefix for the engine number is 308h ????
Advertise it on Ebay. Someone out there with a HG or Chev SS will pay decent $ for it.
$2500??
gotta be worth that
"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
there is nothing special about an hp 308 other than its an early 308 like the one pictured..feb 1969 by the crank date code...it just says hp on the block and crank instead of 308..it should be worth around the same money if its a good motor or you find one of the believers that hp cast 308s are speshal....it still comes down to date code, engine number and the guy that needs a correct motor for his car...

Ok thanks for that.
308H blocks with 308 on the side should really be worth far more than those with HP. The vast majority of HP cast 308's are really only suitable for a HT Brougham as these were the only cars to get 308 at the start of HT. Not long after the 308 was made available across the range (close to the end of HT) the cast mark changed to 308. So for most HT and HG GTS with 308, the "correct" engine is a 308H with 308 cast mark. It's only a month or so of HT GTS production where the 308 cars got HP blocks.
ok, i've got a HP block that i was going to put in the van for something different but might look for a more correct dated block. The HP block has a date code of L18, or that's what it looks like, but the HT wasn't released until May 1969, any ideas or thoughts are appreciated
they must have started building them early if yours is november 68 and the pics i have that motor was feb 69...wasnt the ht release date held up for some reason?
