    dealing with idiots rant

I have become one of those crazy car sellers that you meet.
    grumpy,
    short temper,
and would rather let things rot away than sell them / deal with people.

i am selling a WB 1 tonner at the moment for $1500, unlic. 202 auto, ally tray, mags.

    i am getting spammed with:

    would you take $500?

would it pass rego? (like i am the DPI??????? how would i know?????)

will you take $200 for the cab.

whats the lowest you will go for cash? (like how else were you going to pay?, really)

its at the point now where i would actually rather see it rot than deal with 5 or so people just to get my $1500 off one of them.

i nearly got into a punchup last week when a guy had a wanted ad for a HQ air con set up (which i had) and he came down and offered me $20 for the set up.

    i turned on him.

as i was doing that, one of his mates was taking 2 screws out of a rusty guard i had on the ground.

Ebay is no better, 100's of stupid questions and people just looking to collect images of photos when they ask if you can send photos.
the winning bidder takes his time to pay and pick up + wants it delivered half of the time.
or the winning bid is $11.00 for something worth $100.
eg a clean drivers HG door i recently tried to sell.

I had 2 clowns come and look at a HQ bonnet $50, for over 1 hour they were looking at it. umming and aahhharing, then offered me $40 and when i declined and told them its now $60 or leave, they were shocked.

some of you will say something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay, i know i know.
but there is a price too for dealing with people, its time.
And its just not worth it.

even when people say they really want it, they still never show...

assuming it takes 30 minutes to deal with someone start to finish (including stupid email banter), its just not worth it.

BY FAR THE BEST PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH ARE OTHER WRECKERS, they come in, on time at MY convienience and look at it for 10 - 15 seconds and hand over the cash, happy they have found it, save my phone number + leave.

Basically, i am an AUSTRALIAN, and its not part of my culture to stand around for 30 minutes POWER TALKING + haggling over $10, or running into the shed for extra photos of an item worth $50, uploading them and emailing them because i have better stuff to do.

people ask me now, adam do you have a such and such part??, which, i normally do have that particular part, but i just say i haven't sorry because i can't deal with people anymore. not worth it. e.g HQ-WB front doors,.

finding old holden parts is easy, finding decent buyers is harder......

A guy at our wrecking yard was trying to beat us down on a price for 20 min, so we went out the back and drove the fork lift around the front, placed the item on the ground and drove over it in front of him. He just stood there gob smacked and walked away.

It is the same in the building industry, I tell people of you want cheap get a project home company to build it, but don't complain when the windows don't open, and the doors rub on the jambs, and carpets, and the kitchen hinges fall off, just to name a few problems we have seen from inspecting local builders homes, and project homes. My answer is, you get what you pay for, if you are not prepared to pay the price don't buy it....

I've got a shed full of good stuff that I would sell, except for the idiots - ie I don't wish to deal with them. That's why unless it is to people I know aren't going to stuff me around, any stuff I decide to get rid of nowadays goes straight over to Greg's for him to sell. He's much better at dealing with idiots than I am! Guess it comes from all the years of experience.

Very interesting thread. i have only purchased from a wrecker once and i was happy to pay the $200 for the bonnet i was after. I felt that it was a more than fair price to pay. quick and easy! no rooting around, no bidding, no photos, no haggeling. I wonder how much time i have wasted looking for a bargain on ebay.. I could have been working. interesting thought.

I think that sometimes people forget that running a wreckers is a source of income not a hobby.

Also the bonnet was perfect, never messed with. not like ebay..
