I used to see sandman utes being used by tradies back in the 70's, some were worked to death. It would never happen today though.

Sadly sold the ute and moved on, but married the girl. We have both been working together and restored a red HZ Sandman Panelvan and in the midst of restoring a red HZ Sandman ute, it keeps us keen

    Hi Fellas,

I started an Electrical Apprenticeship in 1986 working for a small company on Sydney's North Shore.
The owner had a HZ Orange Sandman Van, 308 4 Speed with 12' bubble windows in the rear panels.

He taught me to drive on that van, looked a bit strange with L plates on it.
That van regularly pulled 2-ton cherry pickers from Sydney, to power stations at Muswellbrook & Lithgow.
I'll never forget those trips in trips in summer, no AC or steer & skin sticking to the seat.
They were good times, no bloody mobile phones etc.

    Ben.

That's what mine was in Canberra. The bloke I bought it from bought it from his mate, the original owner (so I'm told) and restored it.
